Background
21st century means an age of network-based economy. The network-based economy in China is opening up a new chapter. China's "netizen" population had skyrocketed to 9 million just after the turn of the century and it is anticipated that the figure will top 10 million by the end of this year, doubled every half a year. Online shops increased from 100 at the beginning of the last year to today's 600, increasing by average of two per day. According to the Time magazine, by 2005, China's "netizens" will be the second largest group across the world, only next to that in the United States. Networks have brought about infinite business opportunities to the Chinese economy. How can government departments, enterprises, commerce sector and banking sector seize this rare opportunity to take up electronic commerce, a new business model that is challenging the traditional transaction model? This conference will provide delegates from various sectors a forum to exchange news and views. Interesting reports delivered by an outstanding line-up of Chinese and foreign experts, panel discussions on hot topics, a show of products presented by Chinese and foreign firms and on-site demonstrations of online transaction make the events more colorful. All these will help enterprises to gain competitive consciousness to take up the challenges in the new century and have a contribution to make for promotion of electronic commerce applications in China.
