General Situation of Shanghai
Slide 4
1. General Situation
Shanghai, where the Yangtze River pours into the East China Sea, sits on the central location along China's coastline. Facing the vast Pacific Ocean, Shanghai is China's east gateway leading to the rest of the world.
Slide 5
With a pleasant northern subtropical maritime monsoon climate, Shanghai enjoys four distinct seasons, generous sunshine and abundant rainfall every year. Spring and autumn are relatively short, while winter and summer longer, with the average temperature of 16 degrees Centigrade in a year.
From a small village for fishermen 700 years ago to the largest port of China in 19th century, and even to an international metropolis today, Shanghai has become one of the cities that witness most dramatic changes and fastest growth in the world.
13 million permanent residents and 3.5 million migrating people live in this international metropolis with an area of 6300 square kilometers. Shanghai is opening up to the rest of the world and you are welcome to Shanghai.
Slide 6
2. Economy:

Agriculture is undertaking a strategic shift to be high-tech, modern and environment-friendly. Shanghai is advancing to a center of international economy, finance, trade and shipping.
Slide 7
3. City Development
Since 1990s, Shanghai built viaducts, crossing-river bridges, tunnels, metro and light rails, two international airports, ports and completed a range of major constructs, e.g. to harness rivers, etc. In the near future, the world-advance Maglev will be available in Shanghai to smooth mass transit. Shanghai will be favored as a better place to invest and live.

The project of one-card-for-all (involving diversified IC cards for banking, transportation and social securities, etc) is in substantive progress. Shanghai PSTN is now a fully digitized network with fiber as transmission media under a framework of SDH.
