SSMC Signed Contacts in a Row- -

This translation was for Siemens Shanghai Mobile Communications Ltd. (SSMC), done on September 18, 2001.

In the past few days, SSMC signed contacts in a row, respectively with China Mobile and its nine branches, located in Anhui, Shanghai, Hubei, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Qinghai, Tibet and Guangdong, for GPRS deployment. SSMC plays an active role in China Mobile's second phase of GPRS deployment, a massive network deployment after the GPRS pilot network starting in 1999 in China.

Sources said that SSMC would deploy GPRS core networks for Anhui Mobile, Xinjiang Mobile and Tibet Mobile in this project, with a total capacity of 55 thousand lines. The key equipment is GR2.0 supplied by SSMC, with a wealth of advanced features. The whole project is anticipated to be complete in xx. Meanwhile, SSMC would help upgrade of the existing mobile networks there, BR 5.5 version available to the BSS equipment, and new PCU modules inserted to each BSC for GPRS functions. This network upgrade, possibly done in xx, would involve 38 cities in these nine provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities.

GPRS is so far the optimal platform for mobile data services, providing customers with reliable data access at higher rates. SSMC launched not only stable and reliable GPRS systems easy for expansion, but also brought diversified GPRS mobiles to the China market. The partnership of SSMC and China Mobile resulted in new mobile services: faster Internet access, sending and receiving email messages, PDA-based data services, WAP networks and access via leased lines, etc.
