Leaving an MSN Conversation

June 30, 2008

Instant messaging is a great help most of the time and that is why I always try to turn it on.

However, instant messengers are crap at some points you cannot really chat much, so I refrain from using it too much. Personally, I close windows when the conversation has already died off or the person does not reply within 5-10 minutes to free my laptop some memory. But if they continue talking, then I will just continue talking. Sometimes conversations stop all of a sudden (when both parties do not know what to say), I think it is not rude at all to close the conversation.

I hardly use "appear offline" with MSN (WLM), but I do use the status mode with QQ when I would like to see who is on but not want to talk to anyone unless I initiated the conversation.

I cannot stand it when people go offline without saying anything, in the middle of a conversation, especially when they do it ALL THE TIME or when they say "hi", expecting you to make a conversation, but hardly say a couple of words. I also feel rather bad at those whose status is forever on "away" or "busy" even if they are really not. I also hate the person who takes extremely long to reply when he/she was the one who started the conversation in the first place. He or she expects me to answer them immediately but when I did, they took their own sweet time...

So, if you do not reply within 5-10 minute, as you are busy, please say it. If you are going to give a slow reply, please say it! Do not leave people hanging. I dislike people who think, "You are on the computer" when I clearly state on my status "busy".
