Khalil Fong (born on July 14, 1983) is a soul singer and songwriter from Hong Kong. He was born in Hawaii and his family moved to Shanghai when he was six. His father (an American-born Chinese from San Francisco, California) wanted him to learn more about Chinese culture. Six years later, they moved to Guangzhou and lived there for about two years. Afterwards, they moved to Hong Kong.

 

Since his father is a drummer, there was always music playing around the house and so he picked up the drums at an early age. When he was five his parents took him to see the movie "La Bamba" - it was the defining moment that fueled his passion for singing. When he was 16, he sent demos, which he had written, to music producers. Four years later, Warner Music Hong Kong finally recruited him as their producer. He released his first album "Soul Boy" in September 2005.

 

He has won a number of awards, including a silver award for New Male Artist at Commercial Radio.

 

He released his second album "This Love" in December 2006. It featured the song "Love Love Love" which peaked at No.1 in the 903 Top 20.

 

He returned to take fans to his new music "Wonderland" in January 2008.

 

His first language is English and he can speak Mandarin, Shanghainese, Hawaiian Pidgin English, and Cantonese.

 

He may not be good looking but he is a good singer. He is rather cool with his aviator glasses. Some people said that his songs are quite similar to David Tao's, while others believe that his music style is really like Jay Chou's, but I think his music sounds happier, faster and more upbeat while Jay's sadder and slower. His songs have a nice beat and his voice is very pleasant to listen to. Too many Mandopop singers add in random English that makes no sense in context and sounds very strange to the native English-speaker. However, he has sprinkled some very clear and pleasant English throughout his albums. He said that the things he cannot live without are food, water and music!
