Building Confidence

Self-confidence and self-esteem are essential to healthy living. Some people have a severe lack of confidence and it follows them wherever they go and whatever they do. For instance, they are really bad with approaching women, and they do not make new friends easily unless it is through other friends.

 

Building confidence levels is one of the foundation blocks of a good personal development plan. By feeling confident about yourself, you are much better equipped to practice the techniques used for successful self-improvement. Boosting self-confidence is a relatively simple task, but it all starts and ends with being able to control your mind and how you think. If you really want to learn about building confidence, and empowering yourself to lead a better and more fulfilled life, you will need to spend some to change your habits and how you react to the situations that are disempowering you.

 

There are no concrete ways of achieving self-confidence, a mindset that an individual must acquire. You can acquire this by any number of ways that make you feel good about yourself and the direction in life you are taking. If you are looking for a one-size-fits-all guidebook on this, there are none. Self-confidence is a function of the individual and the sum of his or her strengths and how that individual views his or her self. If you view yourself as weak and ineffectual then you will be weak and ineffectual. If you view yourself a strong and competent then you will be strong and competent. Either way, how you view yourself will spill into everything you do and influence the outcome of whatever you undertake.

 

The best advice to building self-confidence is PRACTICE! Put yourself in situations where you are forced to interact with others - with time you build the confidence and ability to effectively communicate with others. In a sense, confidence is like a muscle - if you become a recluse, for example, your confidence around people will naturally dwindle.

 

Although many of the factors affecting self-confidence are beyond your control, there are a number of things you can consciously do to build self-confidence. By using the following strategies you can get the mental edge you need to reach your potential: dress sharp; walk faster; good posture; personal commercial; gratitude; compliment other people; sit in the front row; speak up; workout and focus on contribution.

 

Concentrate on what you do well, set goals for yourself and see those goals through. However, true self-confidence is not an overnight acquisition. Building confidence takes time and effort. Some people appear to be just naturally gifted with an overabundance of it but in reality most are insecure about at least some things in their life, everyone is. There are no quick fixes for a lack of self-confidence. It must be worked at and you must learn to step up and take chances regardless of the outcome. Only by developing a track record of success can you gain the self-confidence you are looking for.
