JJ Lin is a Chinese-Singaporean singer-songwriter, born on March 27, 1981. He is of Fujian descent, and came to musical prominence and success in the Greater China region. He has talents in composing songs, music arrangement, singing, dancing, writing poetry and drawing. He writes very romantic and deep lyrics, and composes very catchy, beautiful tunes. He has written songs for various artists. The speed of his song writing is shocking; with the fastest in 20 minutes.

 

He started learning the piano at the age of 4. As he was young, he did not know anything, and he belonged to the group of kids that got forced to do something they did not want to do. His mother said that he had to practice playing the piano for two hours a day, or else, he could not play video games. Actually, he had a passion for music at that time already, but practicing the piano everyday could be a headache. Sometimes, he would loaf around, though he was supposed to train for two hours a day, but he took half an hour to go out and play, he would pass the rest of his work to the recorder. Because he would first record the pieces he played, so what his mother was hearing was just a recorder playing.

 

When he was a student, he was good at art and literature. Other than music, art was another subject he loved. To him, composing songs and drawing comics are also a way of expressing feelings. His growing up experience and character are all written in his songs. He said that in future if he has a chance, he would want to publish his own series of comics, or take his pictures of journeys around the world and save it properly.

 

At the age of 15, he composed his very first song. In 2003, he won the Best New Artist award in Taiwan Golden Melody Awards. Back in Singapore, he was chosen to perform the remixed version of Home, the theme song of the National Day Parade in 2004. His career and notability began to rise astronomically in Singapore particularly with the aid of his music being used in TV dramas, and his increased public appearances.

 

After winning the gold award in the Best New Act category in the 2004 Singapore Hit Awards, he went on to sweep the 2005 edition with four awards to his name, including the Best Local Male Artiste, Best Composing Artiste, Best Male Vocalist and Best Local Music Composition awards, recognizing his talents both in the composition and performance aspects of his music.

 

He has released five albums since his debut in 2003: Music Voyager (2003), Second Heaven (2004), No.89757 (2005), Cao Cao (2006) and Music Evolving Process (2007). Transforming and evolving so much from his first album, he is fantastic in his flexibility in style, and his new album reflects this beautifully.

 

His voice is beautiful. It would melt anyone's heart. He knows how to express his emotions in his songs, and make the listeners feel that way too.

 

He may not be very good looking, but he is very cute and absolutely adorable. It is awesome that he has such a huge fan base internationally. Not many singers can appeal to so many people.  

 

When at home composing songs, he cares a lot for environment. He has to tidy up his house till he feels comfortable with it, and put himself in a sealed up place alone, or else, he will not be able to express out his inspiration. And also when he goes to the movies with his friends or to exercise, new inspirations will appear in his head, and, he will write it down straight away, when he goes home, he will then settle down and organize everything properly. His father will often be the first to listen to his new songs and voice out his opinions, then, he will go through his father's opinions and change the parts that need to be changed.

 

Do not think that he is a very gentle guy; he can actually complete an 800-meter Standard Obstacle Course (SOC) in 8 minutes!
