Stefanie Sun is a Singaporean popular singer, born on July 23, 1978. She attended St Margaret's Secondary School and Raffles Girls' School, and later on majored in sales and marketing at Nanyang Technological University, all in Singapore.
She learned singing in Singapore, but in May 2000, she debuted under Warner Music Taiwan with an amazingly successful self-titled album "I Am Stefanie Sun". Rising to sudden stardom, she has grown into a regional pop phenomenon and still reigns as Singapore's best-selling recording artist. Her meteoric rise in the Mandarin pop music scene has inspired many more Singaporean artists to expand overseas.
Although she is Singaporean and spends much of her time in Singapore, she does most of her recording in Taiwan, where she is also arguably the most popular artist. Other albums she released are "My Desired Happiness", "Kite", "Start", "Leave", "To Be Continued..." and "The Moment". Her hits include "Cloudy Day", "Kite", and "Green Light" and English oldie "Hey Jude". She also sang National Day parade theme songs "We Will Get There" and "One United People".
In 2003, she decided to take a one-year break from making music, and returned in late 2004 with a new album titled "Stefanie", intended to be a mirror of her debut album. This was to symbolize her return with a newcomer's attitude. She also started her own company, Make Music, during this sabbatical. In October 2005, she released her latest album of "A Perfect Day" and moved into a glass house next to the world's tallest skyscraper in Taiwan for a 24-hour stint to promote the album.
She has dual personalities. Sometimes she is very vivacious and sometimes she is quiet, like an old lady.
Unfortunately, hackers used her name to spread a computer virus, W32/Yanz-A worm, through an email that claimed to give users a free download of her hits in video or MP3 format.
