Known to the tabloids as "Paris the Heiress", socialite Paris Hilton (Paris Whitney Hilton) was born on February 17, 1981 in New York City into the Hilton family, and, along with her three younger siblings, is heir apparent to the vast Hilton hotel and real estate dynasty. Her childhood was spent in the world famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Manhattan and she grew up in other homes as well, most notably in the Hamptons and Beverly Hills.

 

Living the glitzy socialite life from a relatively early age, attending exclusive parties and being covered by the gossip press, she became hooked on obtaining celebrity status. As the great granddaughter of famed hotelier Conrad Hilton and co-heir to the Hilton fortune, one would think that she had everything she could ever want. But instead of being satisfied with a position in life some would kill for, she has stridently endeavored to make her own mark in the world. In doing so, she has regularly created a public spectacle of herself; and a few of her escapades have proved to be embarrassing.

 

While attending high school at the Dwight School in New York, she dropped out and eventually earned a GED. She decided to branch out and become famous, instead of attending a university that did not appeal to her. Upon graduating high school in 2000, she immediately embarked on her quest for fame, first by modeling for famed fashion designers. She later completed a remarkable and well-financed campaign to put herself in the public eye, on screen, on television and in music. This effort has included a substantial amount of physical alteration. A naturally pleasant-looking girl, she underwent extensive plastic surgery, hair coloring, and tinted contact lenses in her attempt to reinvent herself as "hot". She also posed for spreads in numerous magazines. The heiress even tried to start her own modeling company and makeup line, but both ventures soon fizzled. Anyway, her efforts eventually paid off.

 

An occasional model, she made her film debut in "Zoolander" (2000), as one of many cameos in the film. She went from movies to television with a starring role in a reality show with life-long friend, Nicole Richie, daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie. In 2003 she starred in a fish-out-of-water "reality" show. In 2004 she released a book, "Confessions of an Heiress", and in 2005 she appeared in the remake of the 1950s horror film classic "House of Wax". She is now the hottest name in entertainment. She is a model, an actress, an author, an entrepreneur, a singer and a songwriter! On her debut album, she captures the sound of summer: a mix of pure pop, hip-hop, and reggae, of bangin' beats, sexy lyrics, and infectious melodies.

 

Hilton has a knack for attracting attention and always seems to be at the center of things. She is a born self-promoter - despite her occasional protests to the contrary. She is not quite a voluptuous knockout, but she certainly is pretty, and her success as a model is understandable. Her slender frame is certainly the stuff of cover girls. Her blonde hair, brown eyes, and sensuous mouth round out the picture.

 

Widely discussed by tabloids, she received a lot of media attention because of who she may or may not have been dating - the paparazzi seemed to make up relationships based on who she was seen cavorting with. However, she was not satisfied with getting in the news solely because of her love life. So together with her tamer sister Nicky (born in 1983), she bounced from party to party in an effort to drum up as much attention as possible.

 

She grabbed more headlines and inches in the gossip columns for her various alleged social misadventures. Her biggest headline came in late 2003 when rumors popped up about a videotape of her, having sex with ex-boyfriend, Rick Salomon, ex-husband of Shannen Doherty. Such was the price of fame.

 

Perhaps in an effort to clean up her image, she has tried to make her mark by working on more substantial projects.
