The other day, my son, who is currently in the military training as a university freshman sent us (his parents) a "thanksgiving letter", as part of his assignments required by the university. The letter, a heart-to-heart talk, really touched my heart. Many of the senior members in our extended family were moved to tears by the letter as well.
Parenting means the rearing of a child or children, especially the care, love, and guidance given by a parent. Parenting is the process of raising and educating a child from birth until adulthood, usually done in a child's family by the mother and father (i.e. the biological parents), or by close relatives (including older siblings) and grandparents, adoptive parents, foster parents, godparents, or institutions (such as group homes or orphanages), where parents are unable or unwilling to provide this care.
Parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world. Yet for many stressed out, busy parents, it is frustrating, upsetting and anxiety producing. And, this most important job has very few (if any) prerequisites. Parenting typically utilizes praise and punishment as tools of behavioral control. Some parents no longer consider spanking a necessary punishment. Nowadays, parents are asked to raise respectful and cooperative children without punishment or giving in.
No one is born, knowing how to parent. So, you probably chose one of two parenting styles. You vowed never do to your children what your parents did to you. Or you actually parent exactly the way you were parented. Unfortunately, either of these two styles is operating unconsciously in most people.
Parents and teachers may look at young children's learning from different perspectives, but they share a common goal: making sure that children receive the best possible education. Mutual respect and communication between programs and families takes advantage of both perspectives to provide children with the kind of care and education that will help them thrive. Not only what a parent does for a living can influence a child's career choice, but the family dynamics also have a strong influence.
