Brokeback Mountain, released in 2005, is an award-winning film that depicts a sexual, romantic, and emotional relationship between two men on a shepherding job on Brokeback Mountain in the American West from 1963 to 1983. Ang Lee directed the film from a screenplay adapted from a short story of the same title by Annie Proulx.
The movie cost about U.S.$14 million to produce, excluding its advertising budget. It was received by a long and heartfelt applause at the Venice Film Festival, and honored by the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, and many other organizations and festivals and the word of "Brokeback" became a buzzword worldwide. While many people think it is an extraordinary accomplishment that Ang Lee presents the audience with something they have known about but never seen and the natural scenes are really beautiful, some other moviegoers made their complaints by saying that the movie is slow and dull and the sex and kissing scenes disturbing.
That is queer indeed as many Chinese people mistake the title for "Broke-arms", instead of "Brokeback"!
